Dear UCE Members: |
The officers would like to thank all of you for your patience and tremendous
support this semester. I am writing to inform you that we do not have a
contract and we have declared impasse. The Administration has continued to
ask for concessions which would erode the benefits our Union has fought so
hard to gain and maintain. We believe given the very modest wage increase
offered these concessions are unreasonable. |
Impasse is a process which allows for a mediator to help both sides to reach
an agreement. Mediation is non-binding; the mediator acts only as a
facilitator. This is only the second time in our Union’s history that we
have filed for impasse. |
Everyone should be assured that while we continue to work for a fair
contract all the terms and conditions of our expired agreement are fully in
effect until we reach a new settlement. Therefore, salaries, increments,
vacations, all time off and all provisions governing our working conditions
remain the same. |
So many of you have asked how you can help, and we are grateful. During the
summer we will inform you of specific ways everyone can get involved in the
Fall. With your continuing support, I have no doubt we will win our fight
for a fair contract. |
Please call the Union Office if you should have any questions or concerns.
Again, thank you for your support. |
In Solidarity, |
